PURPOSE:To obtain a signal transmission system in which a signal is sent at a high speed in a digged well or a production well without effect on a mud circulation system or independently of mud. CONSTITUTION:A driver circuit 23 of a transmitter 2A generates a voltage in response to a transmission signal between electrodes 21, 22. A signal current flowing to a drill string 1 from the electrode 21 causes potential difference between an upper electrode 32 and a lower electrode 33 at a receiver 3A. An amplifier circuit 34 amplifies the potential difference and extracts it as the signal.
