The use of a weighting function G(n) in the frequency determination allows partitioning of the computing time of a digital signal processor, on the one hand for accumulating partial sums in parallel preprocessing stages (V1...V5), in each case for an assigned frequency range, and, on the other hand, for forming intermediate quantities (So1, Su1, ..., So5, Su5) from these partial sums and for calculating the frequency ( omega ) in post-processing stages (SLU, FAU) with the aid of selected intermediate quantities. By virtue of the parallel preprocessing stages (V1...V5) with, in each case, an individually fixed total number of sampling points for the assigned frequency range and an individual shift parameter for the previous sampling values (x(n-mi), x(n-2mi); i=1...5) the desired frequency ( omega ) of the sinusoidal signal (x(t)) can be determined in a measurement range of from a few hertz up to a few kilohertz in real time. <IMAGE>
