In order to simplify the structure of the tappet in a valve gear device with a tappet, especially a bucket tappet, for internal combustion engines, the tappet having a so-called external oil reservoir, connectable to an engine-side oil feed device, for a hydraulic clearance adjusting element, it is proposed that an opening serving to supply the oil reservoir be arranged in the area of the maximum oil level in the guide stem of the tappet and that the opening be connected by way of a passage to an engine-side aperture of the oil feed device.
