The peripheral pump has a rotor (impeller) (14) which revolves in a pump chamber (20) and at its circumference is provided with a multiplicity of blades (vanes) (42). At its end faces, the rotor (14) adjoins one wall (24; 26) each, in which an annular channel (52; 54) is formed which lies on the same circumference as the blades (42). For each blade (42), the rear side (64) facing counter to the direction of revolution (58) of the rotor (14) has, facing towards the adjoining wall (24; 26), a face (68) which, as seen in longitudinal sections taken tangentially to the rotor (14) through the blade (42), is arranged obliquely with respect to the end face of the adjoining wall (24; 26), is designed to be essentially planar and, with its edge facing towards the wall (24; 26) faces in the direction of revolution (58). The oblique face (68) forms an intake region for the fuel flowing into the interspace (44) present between each two successive blades (42) and prevents the formation of vortices and eddies. <IMAGE>
