HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM FOR AN OFF-ROAD VEHICLE

A brake system (10) for an off-road vehicle (12) having an operator seat (16), a brake pedal (18), and a hydraulic brake (24) responsive to operator actuation of the brake pedal (18). The brake system includes a tank (30) for hydraulic fluid, an electric pump (32), a pressure modulating valve (28), a brake pedal switch (38), and a flow control valve/switch (36). During normal braking the pedal switch (38) actuates the pump (32) to provide fluid to the brake (24) through the flow control valve (36). Return flow to the tank is modulated by the pressure modulating valve (28) depending on the amount of pedal depression. In the event the seat (16) is not occupied, the switch (36) activates the pump (32) and the flow control valve (36) routes all fluid to the brake (24).
