PURPOSE:To produce a magnetic scale material which has, even at the time of use under a high temp., oxidizing, and corrosive severe environment, superior heat resistance, oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance, and high temp. strength and sufficient durability and is capable of having high detection precision, such as a rod with magnetic graduations for an EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) device concerning automobile exhaust gas control. CONSTITUTION:Recessed parts 2 having prescribed shape and depth are formed on the surface of the parts, where graduations are to be formed, of a base material 1 of non-magnetic steel which has a composition consisting of, by weight, <=0.20% C, <=2% Si, <=2% Mn, 7-15% Ni, 16-25% Cr, 0.1-3% Mo, <=0.20% N, and the balance iron and also has a structure consisting of austenite structure. Then, the inside of each recessed part is coated with a magnetic material 3, by which the magnetic scale material is formed. Further, the formation of the above recessed part 2 is done by means of grinding, and the coating of the recessed part with the magnetic material 3 is performed by means of plating. |
