PURPOSE:To obtain a new compound useful as a raw material, an intermediate, etc., for alpha-amino acid derivatives. CONSTITUTION:This compound is expressed by formula I (R<1> and R<2> are alkyl, arylalkyl or alkenyl; R<3> is H or alkyl), e.g. methyl alpha-carbamoyl-alpha- methylbenzenepropanoate. Furthermore, the compound expressed by formula I is obtained by reacting an enzyme, produced by a microorganism belonging to the genus Rhodococcus and separated from the microorganism or its culture solution or the microorganism containing the enzyme or the culture solution thereof directly with a malononitrile derivative expressed by formula II such as allylmethylmalononitrile and directly providing the compound or further subjecting the resultant compound to esterifying treatment. |
