An ultrasonic coupler having a specific configuration is to be produced in fewer steps than in accordance with a conventional production process, according to which the ultrasonic coupler is produced by freezing and thawing out an aqueous solution containing a polymer. In addition, the ultrasonic coupler to be produced is to have a surface with an advantageous smoothness. The ultrasonic coupler is produced using an ultrasonic coupler production mould, the individual parts of which consist in each case of silicon rubber, which changes in agreement with the expansion and contraction of the aqueous solution. The aqueous solution, containing a PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) is poured into the mould, which is then subjected to cooling below the freezing point and returning back to room temperature, so that cross-linking of the PVA and thus gelling develop.
