Working method for installing and removing the set of moulds which is composed of an upper mould and a lower mould and is provided with complementary pressing surfaces, in the case of a plate press with a hydraulic drive system for pressing tabular material to be pressed, during the production of press plates. Work is carried out with a mould changing carriage which has a raising and lowering device with a hydraulic drive. The mould changing carriage is moved by means of a chain drive which is arranged in front of the plate press and extends from the starting station itself up to the front of the plate press. In order to install a set of moulds, the appropriate batch of moulds is, in the starting position, placed on the mould changing carriage in the correct position for fitting and is moved into the open plate press, ready for accurate installation. The hydraulic drive of the raising and lowering device of the mould changing carriage is connected to the hydraulic drive system of the plate press and the mould changing carriage together with the batch of moulds is raised in the open plate press until the surface rests against the rolling beam and the upper mould and the lower mould are fastened thereto. The mould changing carriage is released from the batch of moulds, lowered and returned out of the open plate press. The batch of moulds is lowered using the running beam until the lower mould rests on the bed plate. The lower mould is connected to the bed plate and is released from the running beam and/or the upper mould and the plate press is made ready for operation thereby ...
