A blocking-off device for car parks and thoroughfares has two elements (12, 14) pivotable relative to one another, namely an element (12) which can be fixedly attached to a base and is articulatedly connected to a blocking element (14) movable to and fro between a lying, not blocking position and a standing, blocking position via a drive (16) by means of a control (18). In order to make possible a design which is as simple and economical as possible, it is proposed that the drive (16) is a mass-produced, compactly constructed linear drive (64) which has an electric motor (66), a gearing (70) and a rod-shaped element (72) movable linearly relative thereto, and that the linear drive (64) is received in a mounting (52) which is articulatedly connected to one of the two elements (12) pivotable relative to one another, and that an outer end (76) of the linearly movable, rod-shaped element (72) is articulatedly connected to the other of the two elements (14) movable relative to one another (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
