The solids (abrasive and joint material) settling in the collecting system filled with water are fed with the assistance of additional water jets by a pump to a hydrocyclone and are thereby separated into two part streams which, in addition to water, essentially contain, on the one hand, re-usable solids and, on the other hand, solids requiring disposal. The solid which is to be re-used is, in the case of water/abrasive suspension blasting, taken directly to a re-use. For water/abrasive injector blasts, prior drying should be carried out. The suspension requiring disposal is thickened by means of a hydrocyclone, the solid being classified and taken to disposal, and the water being recycled into the circulation.
