The invention relates to a protective covering for transporting a bicycle or the like, having two side-wall parts (12, 13) which can be attached to one another, are placed congruently on one another, and are attached to one another along their curved edge regions starting from their lower edge regions (14, 15) in such a way that a hood-like protective covering (1) is formed, whose lower edge regions (14, 15) of the side-wall parts (12, 13) form an insertion opening for the bicycle (2). The side-wall parts (12, 13) consist of a felt or nonwoven material of a predetermined thickness in such a way that they have a rigidity which allows the hood-like fitting of the protective covering (1) over the bicycle (2) from above and a flexibility which allows deformation of the side-wall parts (12, 13) to grip the bicycle packaged in the protective covering (1) by hand at predetermined regions.
