Method of fabricating a welded structure from sectional metal bars with a coating (4) protecting the surface, sectional bars (1) being used which as semi-finished products have already been provided with the coating (4). After the welding of the sectional bars (1), the surface of the weld as well as of marginal strips (5) in which the coating (4) has been removed or destroyed before or during the welding is treated with a laser beam (10) and as a result is provided with a protection closely adjoining the coating (4) remaining outside the marginal strips (5).
