The invention relates to compounds of the general formula SnR<1>aR<2>bR<3>c, in which R<1> is an alkyl radical having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R<2> is an acetate radical, R<3> is a trifluoroacetate radical, and a has a value of 1 or 2, b has a value of 1 or 2, c has a value of 1 or 2, with the proviso that the sum of a + b + c = 4. The invention relates to a process for the preparation of these compounds and a composition for the preparation of electrically conducting and infrared-reflecting fluoride-doped tin oxide layers on glass, glass ceramic and/or enamel surfaces, containing tin compounds of the formula SnR<1>aR<2>bR<3>c or mixtures of these tin compounds, the mixture corresponding to the general formula SnR<1>xR<2>yR<3>z , in which x has a numerical value of 1 to 2, y has a numerical value of 0.1 to 2.9 and z has a numerical value of 0.1 to 2.9, and the sum x + y + z = 4, dissolved in a polar organic solvent.
