A remote control system for controlling the direction of movement of components, particularly in a motor vehicle, is described which contains a portable transmitter with transmit key for a wirelessly transmittable infrared code signal and a first diode, arranged at the component or in its environment, with receiver for the code signal which initiates the movement of the component in the correct code signals received. To provide for selective initiation of one of at least two directions of movement, at least one further diode associated with the receiver is arranged at the component or in its environment in spatial vicinity of the first diode, the receiver initiating the direction of movement of the component and maintaining the movement during the reception of the code signal which is associated with the diode with the higher received intensity of the code signal.
