<p>A dye-donor element for thermal dye transfer comprises a support having thereon a dye dispersed in a polymeric binder, the dye comprising a a magenta pyrazolylazoaniline dye having the formula: <CHEM> wherein: R<1> and R<2> each independently represents hydrogen, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms or an allyl group, with the proviso that R<1> and R<2> may not both be hydrogen at the same time; or R<1> may be joined together with X to complete a 5- to 6-membered heterocyclic ring; X represents hydrogen, R<5>, or OR<5>, or can be joined together with R<1> as described above; Y represents hydrogen, R<6>, OR<6>, halogen, or NHJR<6>; J represents -CO-, -CO2-, -SO2-, or -CONR<4>-; R<3> represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or allyl group as described above for R<1> and R<2>; or a substituted or unsubstituted aryl or hetaryl group of from 5 to 10 atoms; each R<4> independently represents hydrogen or R<3>; R<5> represents alkyl, allyl, aryl or hetaryl as described above for R<3>; R<6> represents alkyl, allyl, aryl or hetaryl as described above for R<3>; with the proviso that one of R<3>, R<4>, R<5> or R<6> is an alkyl group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms substituted with a group capable of intermolecular hydrogen bonding.</p> |
