PURPOSE:To obtain a ternary catalyst to be used in purifying the exhaust gas from a gas engine in which a gas consisting essentailly of methane is employed as the fuel by forming a wash coat on a honeycomb carrier with a layer contg. Pt, Rh and Ce and a layer contg. Pd and specifying the contents of the Pt, Rh, Pd and Ce. CONSTITUTION:The ternary catalyst for purifying the exhaust gas from a gas engine using a gas consisting essentially of methane as the fuel has a wash coat on a honeycomb ceramic contg. at least Pt, Rh, Pd and Ce. The wash coat consists of a layer contg. at least Pt, Rh and Ce and a layer contg. at least Pd. The contents of the Pt, Rh, Pd and Ce for the apparent volume of the carrier are controlled respectively to >=1g/l, >=0.2g/l, >=2g/l and >=5g/l. The ternary catalyst is obtained in this way. |
