PURPOSE:To improve the durability, especially of the peripheral region of a honeycomb body where thermal stress is concentrated, in the metal carrier using the S-shaped honeycomb body in which the respective structural units consisting of the flat strip and corrugated strip constituting the honeycomb body are abutted on the inner wall surface of a metallic casing enclosing the honeycomb body. CONSTITUTION:The metal carrier MS consists of a honeycomb body H with the flat strip 1 and corrugated strip 2 as the minimum structural units, obtained by winding plural sets of the structural units, with one end of each unit abutted on the inner wall surface of an enclosing casing 4 and used to carry an exhaust gas purifying catalyst and the casing 4. In the carrier MS, a non-folded large- thickness part A increasing the apparent thickness of the flat strip 1 is formed at the end of the strip 1. |
