<p>PURPOSE:To improve responsiveness in valve timing changing action of a variable valve timing mechanism using non-circular gears. CONSTITUTION:Rotation is transmitted from an exhaust cam shaft to an intake cam shaft, by attaching non-circular gears 5a, 7a to an intake cam shaft 1 freely rotatably, and by fixing either one of the gears 5a, 7a to the intake cam shaft. The gears 5a, 7a are attached by sandwiching a spacer 9 fixed to the intake cam shaft, an engaging pin 16 in the spacer is moved by oil pressure so that it may be engaged with any pin hole 15, 17 of the gears 5a, 7a and the gear 5a or 7a is switched and fixed to the intake cam shaft and also there are provided with springs 53, 73 which energise the spacer in mutually reverse directions against the gears 5a, 7a.</p> |
