An automatic device for shutting off a suction or vacuum tube comprises a cutoff valve (7, 8) equipped with a shutoff member mounted on a tube (5, 6) leading to a tool (16, 17) connected by a length of vacuum hose (15, 14) to said tube (5, 6), and a movable hook member (18, 19, 20, 21) which holds the tool (16, 17) in the rest position and engages with a mechanical means (22, 24, 25) that operates the shutoff member, in such a way as to close the valve (7, 8) when the tool (16, 17) is in the rest position on its hook member (18, 19, 20, 21) and open the valve (7, 8) when the tool (16, 17) is taken off the hook in order to be used. <IMAGE>
