PURPOSE:To reduce the loads on a server machine and to shorten the loading time of a work station by reducing the transfer processings of OS to be used from the server machine at the time of applying and starting the power source of the work station. CONSTITUTION:The work station 2 is provided with an OS holding part 23 and a work station OS version number holding part 22 by rewritable nonvolatile memories for holding the OS used in a previous time and the number of versions. After the power source is applied, the number of the versions of the OS to be used is enquired of the server machine 1 and whether or not it is the same as the number of the versions of the OS held in work station itself is investigated. When they are same, the OS held in the the OS holding part 23 is loaded to a main memory. Only when they are not same, the new OS is transferred from the server machine and is loaded to the main memory and also the OS holding part 23 and the work station OS version number holding part 22 are updated.
