PURPOSE:To provide a high luminance and long life gas discharge display device. CONSTITUTION:The first electrode 2, the second electrode 5, and the third electrode 8, which is paired with the second electrode 5 and is formed paralley with the second electrode 5 via dielectric layers 6, 7, are arranged in a gas discharge display device. One or plural of the second electrodes 5 are connected by common connection and driven at the fixed cycle. Display writing is carried out by AC type discharge of the first electrode 2 and the third electrode 8 when the second electrode 5 is on the high voltage side, and after writing, the maintenance of writing is carried out by AC type discharge between the second electrode 5 and the third electrode 8, which is cyclically driven in a reverse phase to the second electrode 5. In this way, the duration when the second electrode is actuated as a negative electrode is reduced, so that consumption is prevented. |
