The invention relates to a non-track-bound vehicle with electric motor. In order to improve such a vehicle in such a way that it is possible to start the internal combustion engine even when cold using the generator as a starter motor when only the normal vehicle battery is available as an energy source, it is proposed that an intermediate d.c. circuit (4) which is equipped with capacitors be connected downstream of the generator (2), the electric motors (8) being fed from the said intermediate d.c. circuit (4), and that the programme of the electronic control (FST) should provide for the capacitors of the intermediate d.c. circuit (4) to be charged from the vehicle battery (6) before the internal combustion engine (1) is started, and that the current for the motor mode (starter mode) of the generator (2) be obtained from the intermediate d.c. circuit (4).
