Process for dissolving a spent catalyst

This process is characterised in that it consists in calcining the spent catalyst at a temperature below 1000@C but not lower than the temperature at which any one of the residual components of the spent catalyst undergo an ignition or a combustion, the said component forming part of the group including an oil, a sulphur-containing component and a carbon-containing component, and in dissolving the calcined product with the aid of sulphuric acid after addition of a metal to the calcined product as catalyst for accelerating the dissolving. Application in particular to the recovery of valuable elements from spent catalysts.
