Profiled battens with mutually spaced, substantially identical continuous longitudinal strips (5, 6) form the straps of a yard and mutually delimit their curvature deviation and thus their curvature by means of stops (11, 12). The narrow profile of the longitudinal strips in the horizontal projection is protected against overload by buckling of the corresponding compression member up to the stretching member. The stiffness of the battens may be adapted by longitudinally movable spacers (18). Guides (27) hold and stiffen the battens. The maximum curvature may be adjusted among others by Cunningham eyelets. A swinging luff guide and an actuating crossbar which converts the boom forces ensure a uniform operation under weak and strong winds. A batten downhaul and twist ropes adjust the battens over the whole sail surface. Reefing arrangements with bulging of the battens, boom or holding strips allow the sail to be remotely controlled and give a good stand even to the reefed batten sail. A reefable foresail allows the curvature to be adjusted and the performance to be increased. |
