<p>In a digital time-division duplex telecommunications system two or more base units (1) are capable of communication with any one of a plurality of portable units forming a cordless telephone system. Each of the base units (1) includes a transceiver (13) for transmitting signals and receiving coded speech signals from any one of the portable units and synchronisation means including a switch S1 and a receive bit counter (24) for synchronising each of the base units (1) with the MUX1 transmissions (i.e. the coded speech signals) from a portable unit so that handover of communication with one of the portable units from a first base unit, presently in communication with the portable unit, to a further base unit can be performed without substantial interruption of the reception and transmission of coded speech signals between the portable unit and the base units.</p> |
