<p>The present invention provides a transgenic method for inserting a DNA segment into the genome of a recipient animal. A DNA segment is complexed with a polycation. The DNA segment is then inserted into an animal's genome by inserting the polycation/DNA complex into a recipient animal cell selected from the group consisting of an embryonic cell, a germ cell, or a germ precursor cell. The polycation/DNA complex is inserted by injecting it into the cytoplasm or perivitelline space of a recipient animal cell. Alternatively, the polycation/DNA complex is inserted by adding it to a culture medium for uptake by the recipient cells. The polycation/DNA complex is preferably formed in the presence of an electrolyte, such as NaCl or KCl.</p> |
