Nozzle plate and method for the surface treatment thereof

A nozzle plate for an ink jet printer, of the kind which is provided with water-repellant properties, is characterised by a water accepting annulus immediately adjacent the nozzle outlet. A photosensitive resin film (6) is pressed onto the surface (2) of the nozzle plate (1), with one portion entering the inside of nozzle (4). Then by ultraviolet radiation directed from the rear surface (3) of nozzle plate (1) the intruded portion is hardened as plug (6a). At the same time the portion of photosensitive resin film directly above nozzle (4) is hardened by the ultraviolet radiation to form a bead 6b which overlaps the surface of the plate and which is no larger than 1.4 times that of nozzle diameter d. Using the bead (6b) as a mask, an ink-repellent eutectoid plating coating layer (8) is applied to the surface (2) of nozzle plate (1). The plug and bead are then removed. <IMAGE>
