The present invention is directed to a method for detecting compounds possessing growth hormone and growth hormone receptor activity. In particular, it relates to the use of increased tyrosine phosphorylation of a specific protein, pp95, as an indicator in growth hormone receptor-expressing cells upon stimulation with growth hormone or compounds having growth hormone-like activity. The induction of pp95 phosphorylation by growth hormone is rapid and dose-dependent. Therefore, an in vitro assay may be developed which measures the tyrosine phosphorylation of pp95 in cells responsive to growth hormone for the rapid screening of growth hormone, growth hormone-analogs, growth hormone receptor, growth hormone receptor analogs and any compounds capable of stimulating a cellular growth response.
|
