Selectively variable optical data store and method for its production

A description is given of a selectively variable optical data store (1) which has, between two plates (discs) (8) and (9), a layer (7) of chambers (4) into which there is introduced an optical storage medium (25) in the form of a mixture of solid particles with a liquid-crystalline phase. The optical data store (1) can be manufactured in the form of a CD or as a credit card. The data store (1) is produced as follows: first of all one of the two plates (8) or (9) is joined to the layer (7) of chambers, then the optical storage medium is introduced into the chambers, this preferably being carried out in vacuo, and the layer of chambers is subsequently joined to the second plate. The chambers can be impressed into the layer (7) of chambers. However, use can also be made of filter diaphragms having pores or zeolite.
