The radial arms spring from the circular hub (44) which forms the central opening (45). The opening is bridged by a conical cutter comb (46) whose pointed centre projects into the working face. The comb is equipped with numerous cutters (43) and is mounted on horizontal axial jacks (52) connected with the drive (5). The central opening diameter is about fifteen to twenty per cent of that of the cutting wheel (4).Water supply and suction hoses are located through the central opening. ADVANTAGE - Can work in sticky soil which is removed through the central opening for easy disposal.
