The invention provides a physiologically acceptable polymer comprising a backbone to which are attached guanidino groups, the polymer having a minimum molecular weight of 10,000. The invention also extends to foodstuffs and pharmaceutical compositions comprising the physiologically acceptable polymer. Such foodstuffs and compositions are of value in controlling phosophate levels in the body.
