<p>Surfaces with exceptional slip resistance are produced from compositions comprising mixtures of a polymer and a petroleum wax or synthetic wax or silicone, and optionally, independently, a tackifier agent, an ultraviolet light absorber or an antioxidant. Polymers may be thermoplastic, elastomeric or thermoset polymers, or polymers exhibiting combinations of such physical properties. Preferred compositions are composed of a vinyl acetate-ethylene heteropolymer, a polyurethane homopolymer or a natural or synthetic rubber, and a slip resistance effective amount of a petrolatum wax, and, optionally, with a polyisobutylene or polyalphaolefin tackifier. Such surfaces are particularly advantageous in applications in which the skin of the user is in contact with a water-wet surface, or in objects that are in contact with water such as tires, shoe soles, and sports equipment and tool handles, hoses and pipes, and the like.</p> |
