A throttle valve control is disclosed which is capable of reliably ensuring and maintaining minimum functioning of the continued locomotion of a vehicle under the power of the engine. A device (13) for sensing incorrect functioning detects a correct functioning of at least a first and second accelerator pedal sensor (20, 21) and an accelerator pedal switch (22) on the basis of first and second accelerator pedal actuation signals and an accelerator pedal output signal. A throttle valve opening control (14) forms a throttle valve control signal as a function of the first accelerator pedal actuation signal when the accelerator pedal sensors (20, 21) are operating normally and forms a throttle valve control signal on the basis of the output signal of the accelerator pedal switch when incorrect functioning of the first or second accelerator pedal sensor (20, 21) is sensed. <IMAGE>
