A battery to be charged may be located in engagement with a flange 31 of a mounting seat 30 and with an abutment 41 on an adjustable plate 40. The battery may be attached to seat 30 by suckers (301, a stop (302), a spring-biased clamp (307), (308), (Figs. 2A - 2C), or a magnet. Seat 30 is removable from a cavity 21 in charger 20 to facilitate adjustment of charging terminal devices 36 which are horizontally movable along a rail 34 on a member 33 which is vertically slidable in tracks 32 on seat 30. Each device 36 has a vertical and horizontal probe 37 of selective polarity to engage a battery terminal. 40 Batteries which cannot be received on seat may be charged from an outlet 25 on charger 20 via a plug 51 engageable with outlet 25 and connected to terminal devices 53, 54 which can be selectively fitted to blocks 52 so that probes 53 are vertical or horizontal.
