PURPOSE:To prevent steam from entering an atmosphere furnace and from agitating the atmosphere, by hardening small-sized parts having been heated in the atmosphere furnace while passing through a pipe, which penetrates through a quenching liquid contained in an airtight chamber, together with the quenching liquid sprayed through a narrow nozzle. CONSTITUTION:An airtight chamber 3 equipped with an empty chamber 8 beneath itself is connected to a quenching liquid storage tank 4 through a feed pipe 5. The quenching liquid contained in the storage tank 4 is introduced to the empty chamber 8 by driving a pump 7, and is sprayed into a water-jet pipe 6 through the space between a nozzle 10 and the water jet pipe 6. The quenching liquid contained in the airtight chamber 3 is sucked by the jet into the water-jet pipe 6 at a high speed. Small-sized parts having been heated in the atmosphere furnace 1 enter through a guide pipe 2 into the water-jet pipe 6, quenched by the quenching liquid and dropped on a conveyor 11 through the outlet 12, and is conveyed. Because the quenching liquid contained in the airtight chamber 3 is sucked rapidly into the water-jet pipe 6, the furnace gas is sucked into the airtight chamber 3, and the steam evaporated in the airtight chamber 3 is prevented from entering through the guide pipe 2 into the furnace 1. |
