The grinding plate (2) of the polishing device has at its centre a bore which extends at right angles to its large face (2a) and is intended for receiving and fixing the front end of an optical waveguide pin (3) with end face projecting beyond the large face (2a). The grinding plate (2) is supported by its peripheral region (2c) via the ball guide (9, 10) against the peripheral face (1b) of the grinding table (1) which has a central bore (1a) at right angles to the table face (1c). The grinding-medium carrier (5), which is spring loaded in the direction of the end face of the optical waveguide pin (3), is displaceably arranged in said bore (1a). <IMAGE>
