The adsorber (1) is filled with adsorbent between vertical perforated panels (6) and (7), with at least one fraction (20) of small particle size, smaller than 1.7 mm and, typically, a fraction (21) of larger particle size. The gas travels horizontally between the two panels (6) and (7) forming windows for feed or discharge. This arrangement makes it possible to shorten the cycle time and to ensure good separation performance with a lower capital cost. Application to gas separation, especially to obtain oxygen from air.
