PURPOSE: To make excess pressure in a pressurized container safely releasable. CONSTITUTION: A pressure relief system 6 for a pressurized container having an aperture is provided with a closure member 12 that has a bottom wall 14 and a peripheral sidewall 16, and is suitable for insertion into the aperture, and a seal means for the closure member 12 to engage and seal the edges of the aperture. The peripheral sidewall 16 has formed the first set of outwardly projecting radial projections to engage with the aperture edges to hold the seal of the closure member 12 into sealable engagement over the aperture. The second set of outwardly projecting radial projections are also formed below the first set adapted to engage with the aperture edge to hold the closure member 12 within the aperture when the first set of projections are forced out of engagement with the aperture edge due to a build-up of excess pressure in the pressurized container 2, whereby the seals are released from the aperture edge to leak pressure. Also provided is a tool capable of forming the first and second sets of projections in a single step. |
