PURPOSE:To record an image of high quality by providing propriety deciding means of a conveying amount of a recording medium based on a read result of a test pattern and means for correcting the conveying amount in response to the decision. CONSTITUTION:A test pattern is placed as an original 101 of a scanner 102, irradiated with a lamp 100, read by a read sensor 103, and read data is inputted to an image memory 104. A histogram of a sheet conveying direction and density is formed based on the read image data. If the sheet conveying amount is not normal, a density of a position between lines becomes different from that of other position. The smaller the conveying amount is than the normal amount, the greater a difference between a peak density and a mean density except at a peak is increased. In this case, a CPU 105 decides to increase the sheet conveying amount at each time during printing. A sheet feed motor 109 is driven by a pulse motor driver 108. When the sheet conveying amount is increased, number of drive pulses to be applied from the CPU 105 to the driver 108 is increased. |
