PRODUCTION OF TANDEM-TYPE METAL CARRIER

PURPOSE:To accurately and efficiently produce a tandem-type metal carrier for purifying gas exhausted from an automobile engine or the like. CONSTITUTION:A honeycomb body 1 consists of alternately laminated flat plates and corrugate plates consisting of heat-resistant metal. Several honeycomb bodies 1 are housed in series in an outer cylinder 2 to form a tandem metal carrier. In this method, the end surface of the honeycomb body 1 is held by a holding device 5 attached to the top end of a pusher 4, and the pusher 4 is introduced into the outer cylinder 2 while the position of the pusher is controlled. Thus, the honeycomb bodies are successively inserted to the specified position in the outer cylinder 2. Then the cylinder 2 is shrinked to make the honeycomb bodies 1 and the cylinder into one body.
