PURPOSE:To obtain a film or sheet having high elongation at break, high strength and excellent heat resistance by stretching a film or sheet of a specified polyglutarimide resin at a specified draw ration. CONSTITUTION:This film or sheet is obtained by stretching 0.2 -to 5.0-fold a film or sheet of polyglutarimide resin having at least 20wt.% structural units of formula I and at most 20wt.% structural units of formula II. In the formulas I and II, R1, R2 and R4 are each H, a 1-4C hydrocarbon group, cycloalkyl, an aromatic group such as benzyl, phenyl or naphthyl, or a heterocyclic compound. The polyglutarimide resin is synthesized by the reaction of an acrylic resin produced from methyl methacrylate as the principal raw material with ammonia or a primary amine, and the proportion of the structural units of formula I to those of formula II can be adjusted by appropriately varying the amount of the ammonia or primary amine, the reaction temperature, the reaction pressure, the reaction time, etc. |
