PURPOSE:To provide a new cellulase having an optimal pH level near neutral point, acting in high endo nature, useful as e.g. an additive for raising the washing effect of detergents or softeners for clothing. CONSTITUTION:The objective cellulase having the following physicochemical characteristics: (a) specifically acting on celluloses such as carboxymethylcellulose and breaking the beta-1,4-glycoside linkage therein by endo-type mechanism to effect significant reduction of its viscosity but producing little reducing sugar; (b) optimal pH: 6.0-7.0; (c) stable at pH 7.0-12.0 under treatment at 30 deg.C for 30 min; (d) optimal acting temperature: about 50-60 deg.C; (e) stable up to 55 deg.C under treatment at pH 9.0 for 10min; (f) molecular weight: about 20000-22000 (SOS electrophoresis); and (g) isoelectric point: about 3.5-3.8. This cellulase can be obtained from the cultured product formed by microbes capable of producing the above cellulase, e.g. a new strain, Scopulariopsis brevicaulis TOTO-9211 strain (F. ERMP-13285). |
