Apparatus for sealing plastic, e.g. vacuum sealed packaging comprises at least two heatable wires (4, 5) for sealing, at least one other heatable wire (6) for cutting and urging means for urging plastic against the wires (3). The cutting wire (6) is located between two sealing wires (4, 5), and operation of the cutting wire (6) may be selectively switched on or off. In addition, the temperature of the sealing wires (4, 5) is selectively variable. The urging means comprises a silicone rubber urging strip (13) mounted on the lid (2) of the apparatus and is pressed down onto the heatable wires (3) mounted on the upper surface of the base (1) of the apparatus in order to compress the plastic against the heatable wires (3). The apparatus for sealing plastic further comprises a vacuum generating means which comprises a ribbed air extractor nozzle (14). Operation of the vacuum generating means is switched on when the lid (2) is lowered to either of two designated positions and operation of the sealing wires (4, 5) is switched on when the lid (2) is lowered to the lower of two designated positions. <IMAGE> |
