A process is disclosed for extracting recoverable substances from a composite material containing at least one aluminium layer and one polyolefin layer. For that purpose, the composite material is introduced into a reaction chamber (1), where it is carbonized at a temperature below the melting temperature of the aluminium it contains. The resulting residues are separated into aluminium and other residues and the resulting low temperature carbonization gas is used as energy carrier for firing. A drum type furnace is used with a rotary drum (9) which forms the reaction chamber (1), a combustion chamber (10) surrounding the reaction chamber, a material loading device (17) arranged at the inlet side and a discharge (18) for carbonization residues and non-carbonized substances. A heat barrier (19) is arranged in the rotary drum (9), at the inlet side, to reduce heat dissipation in the loading area. The reaction chamber (1) further has gas removing means (20) linked to a dedusting installation (21). The gas removing means (20) are provided with temperature regulation means (22, 23) in order to prevent the formation of condensation products. The drum type oven has several heating areas (14, 15, 16) with associated burners (11, 12, 13) capable of being operated at different heating outputs. |
