The device comprises a removable tubular arm (8) in which there is housed an electric motor driving a length of transverse shaft (12) through an angular transmission. The length of shaft (12) engages in the driving housing of the winch (1). The second end (16) of the arm (8) is articulated to a panel (7) fixed to the gunwhale (4) of the boat by a base (18). Powering the motor makes it possible to drive the winch (1) rotationally. The arm (8) can be pivoted in order to raise its first end (11) away from the winch (1), leaving access around the winch (1) for the passage of the sheet (3). <IMAGE>
