Transmission device for vehicles

This transmission device includes a gearbox (11) comprising several sets of reduction and speed-changing gears between a drive shaft (12) and a differential (13) driving the axles (15) of right-hand and left-hand wheels. The sets comprise pinions (17, 18) mounted fixedly on the drive shaft and pinions (20, 21) mounted so they can rotate on a casing (14) of the differential and meshing with the pinions of the drive shaft. A clutch (23) is arranged on the differential casing in order to coupling the pinions on the latter with this casing one by one. The pinions on the differential casing are mounted by means of sleeves (24a, 24b) which may form an integral part of a ring (24) supporting the clutch in a sliding but non-rotating fashion relative to the casing. A compact transmission device with significant speed-reduction ratios is obtained. <IMAGE>
