The present invention relates to an autonomous machine for forest pruning which is capable of moving along the trunk of a tree, following a helical trajectory, and is characterised in that it comprises a circuler cutting tool (16) and sensors (28, 29) for measuring the frequency of the signal emitted from an alternator (20) coupled to the drive motor of said cutting tool (16) and the speed of rotation of an electric geared motor (3) for driving a driving wheel (4), which sensors are connected to an electronic circuit by means of a microcontroller connected to at least one program memory and to an information storage memory, which microcontroller carries out the slaving of the speed of said geared motor (3) according to the speed of the cutting tool (16) to move the machine around said trunk and in the vertical direction, to reach the cutting height and bring it back to the foot of said trunk. <IMAGE>
