PRODUCTION OF PYRUVIC ACID ESTER

PURPOSE:To obtain a method for producing a pyruvic acid ester characterized by oxidizing a lactic acid ester with oxygen in the presence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:This method for producing a pyruvic acid ester is characterized by oxidizing a lactic acid ester with molecular oxygen in the presence of a tin-molybdenum-based compound oxide. Thereby, the objective pyruvic acid ester can industrially, practically and advantageously be produced from the lactic acid ester in high selectivity.
