PURPOSE:To provide high-quality radiation image information by providing a radiation detector on the radiation irradiation surface side of a panel or its opposite surface side, and stopping the radiation irradiation by a radiation source when the radiation detector detects that the radiation dose reaches a specified quantity. CONSTITUTION:A radiation detector 18 detecting the radiation transmitting an object M is provided on the front surface of a panel 4, and the detection signal from it is inputted to an amplifier 19. The amplifier 19 sends the control signal to a radiation control device 2 to stop the radiation irradiation when the radiation irradiation quantity reaches a specified value. The detection signal of the radiation detector 18 is sent to a reading gain adjusting circuit 20, the light beam intensity of a light beam generation section 5 corresponding to the radiation detection signal, the gain of a photomultiplier, grains of a current/ voltage converter 11 and an amplifier 12, and the input dynamic range of an A/D converter 13 are adjusted by the adjusting circuit 20, and the reading gain of the radiation image information is integrally adjusted.
